![]() ![]() Grindr's own security guide acknowledges on the very first page that "while Grindr is intended as a safe space, its features have the potential to put users at risk." It goes on to say on the second page, "Safety is not merely the responsibility of users, and Grindr is continuously seeking to develop and improve its security features to protect users." So why tf are they reversing course on our security & protection? ![]() This will only result in thousands of guys having to painfully go back into the closet-or worse. Homophobes have used the app's location feature to track down and fire gay men in the US and UK and kill gay men in Morocco, Kenya, and more. Restricting this key safety feature is completely reckless and dangerous. Why are they wanting to put gays around the world at risk of serious persecution, especially when they're known for so many security breaches and privacy violations? Requiring our precise location is super unfair and unnecessary, and it is a threat to user safety. When the Grindr devs inevitably force an update (which they did on July 12), I'll be canceling my Unlimited subscription, demanding a refund from Google Play/my bank, and (finally) saying goodbye to this shit app. I downloaded the apk of a previous version of the app ( v9.7.0), since uninstalling+reinstalling the new version (v9.8.0) did not work in clearing the restriction. ![]()
